ABOUT TRACE KENYA


TRACE KENYA is a registered youth led community based organisation dedicated to the empowerment and development of young people especially those in rural areas through grass root action. Its membership comprises of young people from Gilgil town in the Rift Valley region of Kenya who have come together for the common reason of creating avenues in which they can be of benefit to the community while creating employment opportunities for themselves.

TRACE whose synonym from backwards means: CE – Centre for Empowerment and TRA – Transformation. TRACE in English generally means a mark. The organization intends to leave a mark in every activity it undertakes, as it tries to promote the well being of young people who are mostly oppressed due to lack of employment opportunities.

Meet The Team

Kevin Mureithi Maina

Kevin Mureithi
Kevin is the founder and Projects Director of TRACE. His work in the organisation is to spearhead all the activities that engage the youth in HIV Education, Environment conservation and Entrepreneurship. He is focused on best practices to reach and foster the empowerment and leadership of young people so as to enhance community development. Kevin is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Environmental Science at UNESCO IHE in the Netherlands having received a full scholarship for the studies due to his immense dedication in community development and more so in environment conservation. He is a graduate of Maseno University in Kenya having achieved a degree in Bachelor of Science. He has undertaken various other courses including project management, disaster preparedness, environment impact assessment/Environment audit, HIV/AIDS peer education and business management. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked with an international NGO and one of Kenya’s leading bank for several years.

Hope Wakio Mwanake

Hope Wakio
Hope is a Co Founder of Trace Kenya Group and Project Leader for Environment Conservation. She is visionary, strategic and results oriented with a solid educational background. She holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from UNESCO-IHE Netherlands and Bsc (Hons) 2010 from Egerton University. She is also a part time lecturer at Egerton University & Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute Naivasha. She is an astound EIA/EA expert, member of Eastern Africa Water Association and an avid peer educator on HIV/AIDS issues. She has won many awards among them, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) 2014, RSSAF Green grant (UK) 2012, Austrian Development Agency Fellowship Award for LWE 2011 and Presidential Gold award for young people that was given to her by Former retired President Mwai Kibaki in 2010. She was part of the 25 Mandela Fellows that pursued a leadership course in Business and Social Entrepreneurship at Yale University hosted by the Yale World Fellow Program in Connecticut, USA. Hope plans to mobilize and mentor young people in Kenya to indulge in social entrepreneurship in an effort of promoting jobs creation and environmental stewardship.

Judy Muunda

Judy Muunda
Judy is the Projects Coordinator for HIV/AIDS for Trace Kenya. She is a trained peer educator and HIV Counselor with experience spanning seven years. Her duties entail leading the organisation in the sensitization of young people on reproductive health issues, organizing youth peer education activities and coordinating performance of theatre outreaches with HIV prevention messages. She is also charged with managing relationships with our stakeholders in HIV/AIDS and compiling and making reports on all HIV activities undertaken by our organisation. She is currently pursuing her Degree in Bachelor of Science at Egerton University having already obtained her diploma.

Antony Gakuru Wakini

 Antony Gakuru
Antony is the Projects Coordinator for business development and he is in charge of our income generating activities making sure that they are sustainable and profitable. He also heads our volunteer programmes and works closely with volunteers. He also doubles up as the assistant coordinator for our HIV/AIDS project. This includes assisting in overseeing our HIV/AIDS campaigns, awareness and prevention activities. He holds a diploma in business management and Information Technology and is a trained peer educator by World Vision.

Maureen Birir

 Maureen Birir
Maureen is incharge of our youth policy advocacy programme. She holds a diploma in community development work and is an avid peer educator. She is also currently based as the Coordinator for Climate Action Network and networks with all relevant partners including government and non-governmental organisations for strategic partnerships.

Michael Nderitu

Michael Nderitu
Michael is our social media strategist. He holds a diploma in IT and is highly knowledgeable in social media messaging including use of social platforms eg facebook, twitter and google+.
